Epic by Conor Kostick

This is a great read!

I finished it at 11:00 last night.  Yes, 11.  I stayed up until 11.  Don’t act so surprised.

Epic is about a boy named Erik who finds himself in a futuristic society that runs on a video game- Epic.  Epic is their economy, their means of settling disputes, and the glue that keeps society together.

Erik creates a character named Cindella, a girl who is a swashbuckler.  He has to compete in the annual Epic tournament to get his dad back from exile.

When Erik’s group of friends, including himself, kill Inya’at, the Red dragon in Epic, they find out that fame and wealth is much worse than it seems.  The friends must find a way to get Erik’s dad back from exile before it’s too late.

This book kept me on my toes.  I give it 9 pens: 4 pens for the writing style, and 5 pens for the amazing plot line.
